Forge art mag - currents + chromatic festival

This month I had the pleasure of being included in Forge Art Mag’s Currents exhibition at Mount Analogue in Seattle, alongside some amazing artists and fellow long-time collaborators of the magazine

I showed three pieces as part of the exhibition, two images from my series “Lucky”, and one from “Puberty”

As part of Matthew (editor of Forge)’s residence at Mount Analogue, he has also been doing podcast interviews with all of the artists involved in the exhibition, you can listen to my episode of the podcast/interview here: https://soundcloud.com/forgeartmag/laurence-philomene-currents-2019-interview

This month, I also had some work displayed as part of Chromatic Festival’s 10th anniversary edition at Usine C in Montreal. I showed a preview of my project “Huldufólk”, shot in Iceland last month as part of my residency with In House Outer Space. You can see this preview below

& I also have some work from my projects “me vs others” and “lucky” showing in Budapest at the moment as part of Queeruption festival, you can see more about that here: https://www.instagram.com/queeruption/

Last but not least, I finally set up a print store on this website, so you can now purchase prints directly through that! I will keep it updated with prints at various price ranges - at the moment I’ve got postcards, two limited edition archival prints, as well as some exhibition prints on there : www.laurencephilomene.com/store

Fluide Beauty Spring 2019 & April update

I got to shoot yet another editorial for Fluide Beauty and had so much fun with it! Such a pleasure getting to work with a queer brand and compensate queer + trans models.

Below are some of my favourite images from the project!

MUA : Laurie Deraps

In other news,  I was recently invited to participate in my first artist residency, which will take place at In House Outer Space near Reykjavik (Iceland), from April 22 to May 1st, 2019.  During this residency, I will be producing new work from my ongoing project “Puberty” documenting my experiences with HRT (hormone replacement therapy), and looking at how these themes correlate with icelandic folklore of hudulfolk (“hidden people”), as well as giving an artist talk.

March update

Thought I’d make an update on here since it’s been a while. I have taken the last few months as a bit of a personal sabbatical to heal from burn out and work on developing new projects, but I’m feeling ready to get back in action soon! I have been working on a new body of work of daily self portraits and diary images - thinking about productivity, the slow changes that come with HRT, passage of time, what is staged vs reality, beauty in the mundane, etc. This is a work in progress, not sure yet exactly where it’ll take me but I’m enjoying exploring new ideas visually, and making work outside of a commercial context/without putting too much expectation on it.

I was invited to participate in my first residency, which will take place in Iceland next month with In House Outer Space - I’ll be working on this new body of work there and looking at the body in transformation vs landscape and icelandic folklore. I will post more about this soon ~

Here are a few images from this new project in progress
